A "Single Barrel Pick" from Men's Journal means the specific barrel was hand-selected by their tasting panel, so the exact notes are unique to that expression.

The aroma of our single barrel Blanton's Bourbon immediately transports me to the inside of one of the rickhouses at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky.

The whiskey has aromas of sweet honey and a bit of warm sawdust.

On the palate, it starts with notes of concentrated almond, which gives way to a cosmos of other flavors, including hints of coffee, stone fruit, and bittersweet dark chocolate. Its finish is long and lingering, which makes you want just one more sip.

Blanton's Original Single Barrel at 46.5% ABV (93 proof).

Men's Journal Barrel Pick

Noah Rothbaum is the Spirits Editor at Men’s Journal and a leading authority on whiskey, cocktails, and spirits. A James Beard Award winner, Kentucky Colonel, and fellow of the James B. Beam Institute for Kentucky Spirits at the University of Kentucky, he brought his expertise to the selection of this inaugural Men’s Journal Single Barrel Pick: Blanton’s Original Single Barrel Bourbon, barrel #435.

This is a true one-of-a-kind release just 180 bottles from a single hand-selected barrel. As the first-ever Men’s Journal barrel pick, it marks the start of a new program that will bring more exclusive selections to our community, with future picks shaped in part by rewards member participation.

Rothbaum’s tasting notes capture the character of this barrel beautifully: on the nose, it recalls the inside of a Buffalo Trace rickhouse in Frankfort, Kentucky, with aromas of sweet honey and warm sawdust. On the palate, concentrated almond opens into layers of coffee, stone fruit, and bittersweet dark chocolate, followed by a long, lingering finish that keeps you coming back for another sip.
